10 Hour Power!

10 Hour Power needs only you to make a difference! Studies show that when parents and family are involved, their kids are better students and have more self esteem.

Anne Henderson and Nancy Berla summed it up in their book A New Generation of Evidence: The Family Is Critical to Student Achievement, which reviewed the existing research:

"When parents are involved in their children's education at home, they do better in school. And when parents are involved in school, children go farther in school and the schools they go to are better."

Family involvement can make the difference between a great school and a world class one. Just a couple of hours every month from each family is all that is needed to build and maintain a great CRMS community.

Why? At CRMS, tuition covers the basics -- teacher's salaries and benefits, rent and utilities, and general upkeep. However, like all households, there's always something else that needs to be done, and the extras are even nicer.

What? 10 Hour Power is a new program to help families connect with CRMS. By signing up to be part of the program, your family is pledging to volunteer 10 hours on behalf of CRMS.

How? 10 hours may sound like a lot, but it's fun and easy to accomplish this goal. For instance, there are 6 Family Staff Alliance meetings per year. Each meeting is only about 1 1/2 hours long, but it counts as 2 hours. Any member of your family can volunteer to fulfill the goal -- this includes grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friends. Buying a table at the Auction will meet the requirement as well. In addition, volunteering at the auction is truly an unforgettable experience. As one mother said to me, "I met some of my best friends by volunteering at school."

And that's the crux. We drive here from all over the area. The friendships our kids would usually make in our local neighborhood now need to be forged here. Your involvement will help create the type of community we need -- and we’re here to help.

Please contact Kathy Imahara, Volunteer Connector, 425-235-0576, imahara@comcast.net to sign up and start connecting.

Thanks to the commitment and input from parents, teachers, staff, and board, the CRMS community is continuing an ambitious list of organizational development and community building projects. We welcome and invite everyone to join us to support the great work being done at CRMS.

We have determined three focused areas that welcome the contributors of time and talent of family and staff working together. These are: Facilities, Fundraising and Community Building. We invite you to join us to build a strong and energetic resource pool for dedicated staff, and to bring resources into the CRMS Community.

All families are encouraged to participate as members of a committee, as volunteers, as auction donors and as auction attendees.
